- About Play
This play is based on the 'Panchavati' chapter of Indian mythology, 'Ramayan'.
Sitha sees a golden deer and is enchanted by it. She asks Rama to catch the deer for her. This is the beginning of the problems and results in the kidnapping of Sitha by Ravana.
The drama shows that the common man's thirst for unwanted desires ultimately causes problems.
The entire drama is designed with Yakshagana choreography, a folk art of coastal Karnataka. All the artists had participated in the special Yakshagana workshop before this production. A noted Yakshagana artist and presently a lecturer at Yakshagana Kendra, Udupi, Guru Sanjeeva Suvarna had directed this workshop and also designed the choreography.
The music for the drama was executed by Mr.Venugopal and the chande was played by Mr. Shankar Balekudru. Both are disciples of Guru Sanjeeva Suvarna and were also the former students of Yakshagana Kendra, Udupi.
