About Play:
The play deals with a foolish king who is guided by corrupt bureaucrats. Meanwhile, the subjects of his kingdom – a clever father and son, called Samba and Shiva, receive a boon from Lord Ganesha. Shiva receives a donkey which obeys the instructions of his master while Samba gets a pearl which turns him into a woman. The king sees this woman in a park and falls in love with her. He asks his people to find her. She agrees to come to the palace and catches hold of the corrupt officials inside the palace.
Meanwhile, the donkey saves the king’s life when his subjects revolt against him. As a gesture of gratitude, the foolish king makes the donkey the prime minister, following which the subjects take advantage of the situation. Corruption is rampant in the state and the bureaucrat suggests that the king legalise bribe-taking. The play ends when the king runs away from the kingdom to save his life.
