About the play:
The script is predicted to be written between 6 A.D. to 7 A.D. K.V.Subanna has scripted the play 'Bhagavadajjukiyam' as'Soole Sanyasi' with excellent theatre techniques of Yakshagana.
In the olden system of GuruKula, while a Guru had his student who hides his intense love towards worldly pleasures, encountering situations where both Guru & the student learn a lesson from each other's path of life is one side of the story. The Courtesan 'Vasanthasene' who stays in that place and her story is the other side of the play.
The contrary or the conflict between these different communities & the eagerness to attain the state of each other's feeling is the central motif of the play. Also which happens by an incident where YAMAPURUSHA accidentally exchanges the soul of Vasanthasene with the Guru's & the Guru behaving as Vasanthasene enthralling the audience with a laugh.
Finally, the whole team (Society) heading towards ‘Mukti’ realising the truth with release from all the comforts of life, facing 'Vasanthasene' at the end initiates a begining...
About the writer :
Kuntagodu Vibhuthi Subbanna (1932-16 July 2005) was an acclaimed dramatist and writer in Kannada. He was the founder of the world famous NINASAM (Neelanakantheshwara Natya Sangha) drama institute. Founded in 1949 in Heggodu, Shimoga, Ninasam, under the guidance of K.Shivarama Karantha, made significant contribution to Kannada theatre and other performing arts. He was awarded, in 1991, the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature, and Creative Communication Arts, in recognition of his contribution to enrich rural Karnataka with the world's best films and the delight and wonder of the living stage. He was awarded the Padma Shri during 2004-05. Under the influence of Shantaveri Gopala Gowda, a senior leader of the socialist movement in Karnataka, Subbanna espoused socialist philosophy, to which he was committed through out his life.
To promote Kannada dramas Subbanna set up training centres in various parts of Karnataka. He also established Akshara Prakashana, a publishing house, to publish literature in Kannada related to theatre, which included translations of plays from other languages
For Kannada he has written, translated and directed lots of plays.
About the director :
Being a degree holder in “Ninaasam theatre education centre”, worked as actor and technician. Abhijnana Shakunthala, Moorukaasina Sangeetha Nataka, Kanthu, Bahubali Vijayam, Birugali, Undadigunda, Kannada Ramayana, Parityaktha and in many other plays he has enacted. Bhagyalakshmi, Beedhi Hoovugalu, Hayavadana, Belakinedege, Sanyasi Parakaya Pravesha are some of the dramas directed by him. He has given theatre training to students of schools and colleges, NGO workers and Juvenile criminals. Presently he is working as teacher for acting in star creators learing centre.
