Somashekar Jois
Somashekar Jois is a professional Mridangam n Konnakkol Artist, Classical Vocalist, Music Composer, Theatre artist & above all a Techie! Audio Engineer. Currently working with BIG 92.7 FM Radio, Bangalore .
He started learning Mridangam at the age of 6, under the able guidance of Vidwan Sri.K.N.Krishnamurthy in Bangalore. Since 15 yrs, he has been performing in Mridangam & KONNAKKOL (the rarest Indian art of reciting rhythmic syllables that are used in Indian Percussion and Dance traditions). He has accompanied leading artists and rendered more than 1500 public concerts in prestigious sabhas all over the country. He has performed in Bangalore Doordarshan, All India Radio, ETV, Udaya TV & other private TV channels.He is a 1st RANK holder in Vidwat Mridangam Proficiency Examination, 3rd RANK holder in Senior & Junior Mridangam Examination conducted by Karnataka State Board. He has won 2nd prize in prestigious AIR National Level Music Competition for KONNAKKOL category [Graded artist in AIR Bangalore]. He is a recipient of the prestigious Central Government HRD Scholarship for Mridangam. He is conferred with 'Ananya Pratibha Puraskar' Award for KONNAKKOL & ‘Best Mridangam Artist’ & ‘Thirunarayana Memorial Award’ for Mridangam.
As a Theatre Artist, enacted in various Kannada plays like Kabir das, Swatantra Sangrama, Bharatha Baahubali, Raavi Nadiya Dandeyalli, Dangeya Munchina Dinagalu, Abhinava Brihannala Vilasa, Ondu loka Kathe, Nachiketa, Mukthadhara etc. Composed music for Kannada plays like Mritchakatika, Haddu Meerida Haadi, Alegalalli Raajahamsagalu under SAMASHTI Theatre group. Also enacted in English Theatre production ‘The Last War’ for Times Group Theatre Fest.He has won the overall 2nd best actor ‘LOKESH AWARD’ for the Kannada play 'Muktaadhara' in Bharatha Yatra Kendra Theatre Festival 2005.
As a Classical Vocalist, performed at various stages and won many inter-collegiate competitions. Recently featured in ‘CONFIDENT STAR SINGER’, most popular reality show by Suvarna TV and was placed one among TOP20 Finalists. He has Represented Karnataka State in the National Integration Camp held in Barmer, Rajasthan (1995) & has represented Bangalore University in National Level Inter-University Cultural Competitions held in Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (2004-05).
He has composed music for NAATYAATMA, a special dance performance involving Bharatanatyam and Manipuri cultures & ‘KANASU’, a private kannada album. As an Audio Engineer, won the prestigious 'Indian Excellence in Radio IRF Award 2008' & 'Radio Duniya Award 2008' for the productions done in FEVER 104FM, Bangalore.
Suma G A : Holds an MA in Music , was born & brought up at Holalkere, Chitradurga Dist. Also has completed ‘Hindustani Classical Vidvat’. Currently has taken up singing as the profession & also runs a blind school at Bangalore. Worked as a singer at SANEHALLI SIVASANCHARA TROUPE. . Jangamadedege, Gunamukha, Kalagnani Kanaka, Vadhuti, kathana, Ms Sadarame, Parityaktha are the plays where she has worked as a background singer . Have received many awards & honours like Kalasiri, Kalasanjeevini & also Best Self Employed in the year 2007.
